3 Ways to Adventure Touring the World

Adventure recreation refers to active and outdoor trips such as backpacking (wilderness), rafting, climbing, and outdoor survival.

Adventure tourism is a type of niche tourism involving exploration or travel to remote areas, where one is about to experience the unexpected.

Hot spots for heavy tourism are:

The Hawaiian Islands. Many activities abound that available to do on the waters surrounding the islands. There is plenty of space for everyone to do their favorite sport whether it is snorkeling into sea caves, horse riding on the coast and big-wave surfing.

To see:
Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is home to both the world’s largest volcano, Mauna Loa (13,677 feet high), and the world’s most active, Kilauea (continuously erupting since 1983). Drive around Crater Rim drive to see the massive two mile diameter Kilauea crater and steam vents, and down the Chain of Craters road to see the fresh lava flow covering the highway and the active lava flowing into the ocean.

Hiking up Huayna Picchu, the high peak behind the ruins in the Machu Picchu. There is a wonderful trail, steep and rugged, up to the peak, where the views are fabulous!

To see:

  • Temple of the Sun
  • Intiwatana
  • Temple of the Three Windows
  • Main Temple
  • Condors

Indonesia is the end-point for the eco-tourist, here the options are endless. From orangutan spotting and jungle trekking in Kalimantan to Komodo Dragon watching on the shores of Komodo, options vary by budget and time frame.

To see:
Kalimantan, the Indonesian part of the island of Borneo.

We’ve worked really hard to make it really easy for you to share your experiences with others so that they too may experience the simple pleasures which nature affords.

And remember: The Discovery Treks Journal is totally free, so simply register on the right and share your adventure story with the rest of us.

Best of the Canyon with Discovery Treks

I want to thank Benny for the trip last month my family and I enjoyed with him “below the rim". This company has a well put together package with their Best of the Canyon 5 day trip. We saw so much in that time!! My daughter especially enjoyed the waterfalls in Havasu. The swimming was wonderful. We decided to ride the horses out the 10 miles to the top on the last day, that was a real treat. We haven’t decided if we are more sore from the hiking or the horseback riding. It was well worth it, we will always have great family memories. If you have teenagers and not sure what to do with them for a vacation, I highly suggest this trip.
Thanks Discovery Treks

Paradise found

Just finished the three day trip down (and up!) to Havasu Falls. I found paradise at Navaho Falls (the third and lesser known falls there). All three falls are cool, but Navaho Falls was special for me. There is nothing like diving into crystal clear water, opening one’s eyes, and seeing that sun-filled blue-green vision. The hike was tough (Hey, I’m 65 years old!), sweaty, hot, and wonderful. Our guide, Sheldon was a prince. I recommend it to all.

jumpup canyon adventure

For anybody wanting to experience a really “special” part of the north rim Grand Canyon,
you have to try this Discovery Treks trip out!! I had no idea there are som many different looks to the canyon. Best of all, nobody but our group was there. Our guide Bob Cheesman was great, very knowledgeable about many aspects of the area.
Thanks for an awesome trip Discovery…….
